Adimali Block Panchayat, located in the Devikulam taluk of Idukki district, has a remarkable history of transforming from a dense wilderness into a thriving hub. Originally known as 'Mannamkandam', the region was initially inhabited by the indigenous Mannan and Muthuvan tribes, who lived in harmony with nature under their traditional chieftains. The landscape changed dramatically during the 1940s and 1950s when migrant farmers from places like Kottayam, Thodupuzha, and Kothamangalam arrived and turned the dense forests into fertile agricultural lands through sheer hard work. The development of the Kochi-Madurai National Highway (NH 85) served as a major turning point, catapulting Adimali from a mere transit stop into the largest commercial center in the High Ranges. Today, encompassing the five panchayats of Adimali, Pallivasal, Bison Valley, Vellathooval, and Konnathady, it stands proud as the gateway to Munnar, excelling in both hill-area agriculture and tourism.
